“The Abkhaz people are monolithic, as ever have been, and are ready to defend their independence if needed.’’

Abkhaz Foreign Minister Sergey Shamba, in reference to Mikheil Saakashvili on May 6, “launching restoration of Georgia’s integrity from Adjara” as “just another mistake of Georgian politicians’’ and urged Georgian society to “remember the past lessons’’ in reference with Abkhazia. “Abkhazia isn’t Georgia. The Abkhaz are not Georgians and unlike Adjarians, they will fight to defend independence of their country,’’ Sergey Shamba told INTER-PRESS while commenting on the Adjara developments. Abkhaz Foreign Minister pointed out that “the Abkhaz are not going to take part in Georgian political plays and Georgian society and politicians shouldn’t have any illusion on it. “Comparison of Adjara to Abkhazia is groundless considering the existing reality.’’ Shamba said that developments in Adjara on May 5 is “a characteristics of Georgian national policy,’’ adding that “Mikheil Saakashvili looks like his predecessors Gumbaridze, Gamsakhurdia, Shevardnadze, who were doing their best to show up themselves as important political figures, however the time showed how unsuccessfully they ended their political career.’’ Abkhaz Foreign Minister said that “the Abkhaz people are monolithic, as ever have been, and are ready to defend their independence if needed.’’ (Agency Caucasus)
