Caucasian
folk dances are so frequent in day to day life of the Caucasian
people: From major holidays and wedding occasions to friend gatherings,to
guest wellcoming and at amusements of summer and winter, at all
occasions we find dance.
Forgotten
dances have taken new forms in new expressions, keeping its liveliness
and meaning in the daily life of the Caucasians.
Etnographic
background of a many dance goes back to old times,"Tsoppay"
dance of the polytheism era in Caucasus meant sacrifice to fire
god. Similar forms are observed after Caucasus embraced Islam:
sign of farewell of the warriors to their beloved. İts present
form "WUİG" or "SİMD" is the starting dance
of the wedding occasions.
Caucasian
folk dances reflect the character of the Caucasian: we observe
his respect in dances of couples: his balanced figures reflect
pride and courtesy. Group dances reflect his warrior side in strong
and swift movements coupled with daring aesthetics.
